  • BEST SMALL CAR EVER!

Long story short... this car is absolutely fantastic! if you're a single or couple out there then this is the car for you. it can pull off daily driving and sports car in one. may not be the best in a straight line for pure speed but when you're getting 38mpg highway who needs that kinda speed. best gas milage every achieved was 43mpg all highway, and worst was 26.7 which was all city and track time. comfy and capable in stock form, throw the JCW suspension on and it's a new cornering monster that can hang with cars three times it's price on back roads and in long sweepers on the highway. the bigger problems ever experienced during my 5 year ownership were all covered under warranty such as fuel pump, moon roof and aux water pump... aside from those three there have been no major problems at all. slightly tail happy if you're heavy on the brakes and not a performance driver, but the newest iteration of the ediff in the 2012 models make the car a hard to beat package.. i have the LSD from factory on my car which is absolute heaven powering out of corners and in bad weather. ride height seems a bit high and remains so but settles after about 5 months... rear suspension travel leaves a little to be desired but unless you live on treacherous roads with massive potholes you won't have anything to worry about. as a cruiser it's a great comfortable car with ample room for two and can semicomfortably fit four passengers for not too long a drive. i wouldn't suggest submitting anyone to the backseat for more than 2 hours at a time personally. shifter is great but needs a shorter throw (easily fixed by a $40 aftermarket piece) JCW is the way to go for basically everything with this car. it's powerful, capable, 12.4in brakes are undeniably the best brakes on any small car out there. interior qualities have gone up a lot and the steering wheel is a comfortable thing to grab onto with the JCW variation being nice and thick while leather remains great. clutch is mid release, easy as can be to drive, and pedal placement practically BEGS to be heal-toed. this car drives great and WANTS you to do the same. it's guaranteed the most rewarding and fun car to drive this side of a $90k porsche
  • Fun, cute car - just too small

I loved this little car; mine was a red Cooper S convertible and it made me smile every time I looked at it. But I just did not feel safe in it on the highway, especially in rainy weather. I was worried I was going to get run over by a truck. Also, because it was a convertible, there was a lot of road noise. Visibility to the rear was very poor, especially when the top was open - we ended up installing a back-up camera.

I bought this car for my wife in 2010 to replace another car she neglected...and blew up due to not replacing a timing belt.I own a classic right hand drive mini and she loved it so much she wanted a new version, and this mini fit the bill for the most part. Within the first year it went to the dealership a couple times due to the computer controlled windows....well...not working (they still hiccup once in awhile, reset the battery and youre good) . Beyond that, the car performed very well on and off the highway. She was pleased. But here comes the fun part. After about 30,000 miles, this car will begin throwing all kinds of diagnostic and check engine lights at you. I worked in Texas and she lived in Arizona, and it seemed like i was constantly turning off a light in her car that was a check the brakes, take me into service, or some other badgering light designed to get people into the dealership to be turned off. Yes, for those of us that actually do our regular service and maintenance, this is a very annoying thing. This little car has had premium synthetic oil from day one, changed regularly. (5000-10000 miles) As its gotten older Ive swapped to high mileage synthetic at the 10000 interval. The only real issues so far have been moisture on the transmission computer. (mounted on top of the transmission...under the front cup holders that drain onto it...go figure) and the occasional slight hiccup from excessive carbon build up on the valves, which will throw a check engine light. (google this, its way common on this car) I simply run seafoam through the motor about once a year and walnut blast the intake valves if they need it. (can also be googled) This has actually been a good little car...as long as you maintain it. Dont skip on the service, and dont get too crazy if you see service lights going off every few thousand miles...it wants you to take it to the dealer for a wallet-lift. if you are tool-inclined...the service on these cars is actually quite easy.....let me google that for you.
